What's the difference?
Coating: A coating is a liquid-applied finish that dries or cures directly on the label surface. It provides visual enhancement and surface-level protection against scuffs, moisture, and handling. Coatings such as matte, gloss, soft-touch, or UV/spot improve appearance without adding noticeable thickness.
Lamination: A lamination is a clear film layer applied over the label to create a thicker, more durable protective barrier. Laminates offer superior resistance to water, abrasion, chemicals, and harsh environments, helping extend the life of the label. They are ideal for demanding or long-term applications and are available in matte, gloss, soft-touch, and specialty finishes.
In summary: Coatings protect and enhance the surface, while laminations add a film layer for maximum durability.
